Woodland Hills, CA — Robert G. Hale, DDS, COL (Ret.) is a highly accomplished oral and maxillofacial surgeon whose career reflects exceptional dedication to both patient care and military service. Dr. Hale completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA in 1977 before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1981 and his Postdoctoral Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1989 from Emory University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
In 1989, Dr. Hale established a full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in Northridge, California, where he provided comprehensive surgical care for over a decade. His expertise spans the full range of oral and maxillofacial surgery, a highly specialized field requiring four to six years of advanced hospital-based training beyond dental school. His work includes dental implants, bone grafting, anesthesia administration, and the treatment of complex conditions affecting the face and oral cavity. In institutional and hospital settings, his scope of care extends to trauma, tumors, infections, burns and reconstructive procedures, often overlapping with medical specialties such as plastic surgery and head and neck surgery.
Dr. Hale’s distinguished military career began with his commission in the United States Army in 1977. His active and reserve service includes deployments to Korea (1981), Hawaii (1982–1985), Kuwait/Iraq (2003–2004), and Afghanistan (2004), where he treated severe facial trauma, burns, and battlefield injuries. In 2005, he left private practice to serve as Program Director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency and Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center. In 2010 Colonel Hale was appointed Commander of U.S. Army Dental and Trauma Research Detachment (DTRD) which focused on research of craniomaxillofacial battle injuries and trauma care research. DTRD was part of Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR). His service has been recognized with two Bronze Star medals and Legion of Merit, and his organization, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), awarded him the Humanitarian Award reflecting his global contributions. After concluding his military service in 2014, Dr. Hale established a practice in Woodland Hills focused exclusively on dental implants, applying advanced techniques and technologies refined during his career.
Dr. Hale is an inventor with numerous U.S. and International patents designed to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Hale collaborated with KLS Martin to develop ground-breaking solutions for jaw deformities. As a result of this collaboration, KLS Martin recently introduced the KLS Martin PreProsthetic – the only FDA approved, patient-specific device, for the treatment of edentulous ridge deformities. This innovative product allows patients to avoid the complications and failures often experienced with traditional dental implants, offering a more predictable and durable solution, backed by advanced engineering and surgical expertise.
Dr Hale:
“The KLS Martin PreProsthetic can treat any maxillary edentulous ridge deformity – congenital, post-resection, traumatic, or deficits caused by diseased teeth or failed dental implants – Full Stop!”
